An 8 story hotel in the middle of the Liberties is not on! This is the 3rd week we have protested; we are with residents, local historians, and supporters. The weather was atrocious! A sequel to this little video shows what happens when we go to another local scandal – the Iveagh Market.

Last Saturday – March 2- we protested about insensitive, inapropriate developement in the Dublin’s Liberties. First we were at Vicar Street where an 8 story hotel is proposed; then we marched to the Iveagh Market, sold for £1 to a developer who has left it lie in derelict since. Some very moving testimony from residents and ex residents of the area.

I spoke with Lillian McCarthy, founder member of Pensioners for Equality. They scored a great victory by militant action, campaigning and protesting. Minister Doherty was forced to acknowledge the justice of their cause. True, back-money is being paid from last March only, but they won their main demand – that years spent as carers would be included in their penion calculation – and they’re not done yet !! Well done to Lillian and her fellow campaigners.

Brid holds her own, despite often hostile opposition on a variety of topics – The National Children’s Hospital scandal, the nurses dispute, government housing and tax policies, and racist activity in Roosky

Bríd addresses a local rally at the disused Players Wills factory on SCR. The rally was to highlight the failure of NAMA to deliver this site for public and affordable housing, instead of developer’s profits. It was also to publicise the National Homeless and Housing Coalition march planned for Dec 1st.
