It speaks volumes, doesn’t it, when the new Minister for the Environment OPPOSES a Bill that seeks to ban the use of a type of plastic that serves little purpose other than to pollute (and to make profit of course). And as for the mafia-like ‘waste disposal’ outfits – where’s the controls on them? These were some of the points I made in the debate yesterday

BIN CHARGES: ‘DIG DEEPER IN YOUR POCKET’…THE CHEEK OF THEM!
I spoke in the Dail last night and reminded the Minister of the rotten history of these charges…privatisation, loss of waivers, increasing costs and illegal dumping, and crucially – the profits of the operators who registered off-shore to hide how much they make off us. I put the PBP proposal: Fund local authorities to run the services. Meantime – an immediate price freeze before abolotion of all charges.
Dáil, July 21. Brid lashes out at blueshirters and the ‘great suspenders’, on their relationship with the godfathers of the waste management industries, and policies that hurt those least able to pay.
